Ruby Hibiscus Flower (Roselle)
(Hibiscus sabdariffa)
The ruby color that invites refreshment over ice. Fruity, tart, and full of flavor.
Hibiscus, hailing from its home in Africa, has a long history of use not only for its deep red flowers (botanically speaking, we use the red calyx), but also as a delicious vegetable in stir fries, soups, and spicy chutneys.
The edible seeds have a flavor similar to peanuts, have an oil content up to 20% and can be roasted for use as a coffee substitute.
Packed with anthocyanins and other nutracueticals, benefits from consuming hibiscus have been scientifically reviewed and been found to reduce blood pressure significantly, have strong antioxidant and anticancer activity, positive renal effects including reduction of uric acids, and some anti-cholesterol activity.
Our hibiscus flowers are planted, cared for, and harvested by hand. We then dry them in the sun before carefully packaging.
Suggested uses – The perfect foundation for a cold tea, sweetened and paired with lemongrass and seltzer. We also are fans of warm tea with ginger. Their high pectin content lends themselves well to jelly making. Liven up your next cocktail by infusing some neutral spirits with hibiscus, then floating a few drops in your favorite libation!
We offer…
Hibiscus powder in classic 40 gr tins, 455 g or 700 g bags. Loose calyces are available in 80 g, or 500 g bags (custom quantities available upon request).
